DJ MAG "Stayin' In" re-post #5: Y-QUE TRADING POST

OK, first things first: this place isn’t pronounced “Why-Q”, the proper way to say it is “E-Kay”, as in the Spanish term for “so what”, which pretty much sums up the attitude of this very hip Los Feliz boutique. You can get all sorts of knick-knacks here, but the real prizes are the t-shirts produced in-house—some of the snarkiest and most street-level pop culture apparel you’ll find in the country. Remember the “Free Winona” shirts from years ago? That was these guys. The subject matter in the shirts runs the gamut, from the various neighborhoods in L.A., to celebrity mug shots, to ironic, bizarre and cute examples of what could be called WTF fashion. Thankfully, nearly all of their shirts are available online at www.yque.com, so you don’t have to actually live in Silverlake to look like you do.  Take your time going through the site, as there are lots of gems hiding in places you wouldn’t expect.
